Greetings
Contributing to the creation of a World Hub for clinical trials
and successful development of global new medicine
Today, Korea’s clinical trials have reached world-class levels in terms
of research knowledge, infrastructure, and system (Korea is No. 10
in the world, and Seoul is No. 1 in the world). In particular, Korea is
recognized as a force to reckon with in “next-generation clinical trials.”

Note, however, that Korea’s global R&D market is somewhat shrinking
due to the concentration of multinational clinical trials on late-phase
clinical trials and the vast support enjoyed by our competitors
like China, Japan, India, Russia, and Brazil in terms of R&D
and infrastructure.

Therefore, Korea has to strengthen its global capabilities to lead the
development of new medicine through sufficient government
investment, aiming to overcome relatively weaker competitiveness in clinical trials and
developing new areas in the clinical trial industry and early clinical trial and niche market areas.

Against such backdrop, the Korea Clinical Trials Global Initiative was launched to establish organic networks among the participants in clinical trials and contribute to the creation of a World Hub for clinical trials and successful development of global new medicine based on synergy and integrated management of networks.

For this, we will actively support the development of new clinical trial technologies that can realize a global clinical trial center to strengthen the global capabilities of the clinical trial industry, reduce the cost of clinical trials, and shorten the time required. We will also develop and implement the policies necessary for attracting difficult early clinical trials of multinational pharmaceutical companies, ease the dependence of Korean pharmaceutical companies on overseas markets for clinical trials of new medicine, and cope with the rapidly changing paradigm of new medicine development.

We will do our best to make Korea one of the leaders (No. 7 in the world) in clinical trials worldwide and contribute to the successful development of new medicine by domestic and overseas companies. We welcome your advice and encouragement.

Thank you.
Director of the Korea Clinical Trials Global Initiative
